We are finally done with 2018 and ready to head full steam into 2019.
You may not be ready for the new year... but you honestly don't have much of a choice.
As you might expect the first blog post in 2019 is going to be about our favorite New Years resolutions.
In a survey done of 2,000 people, the top three New Years Resolutions for 2019 were:
Diet or eat healthier
Exercise more
Lose weight
Most likely, at some point in your life if not now, one of these three were on your New Years Resolutions list. In fact, all three have been on mine at some point in my life.
But most of us flounder when it comes to achieving these resolutions.
Why? Because we're not going about it the right way.
Whether you want to make a serious change for 2019 or simply want to just keep moving forward in life, then I have FIVE things that MUST be left behind in 2018. Over the course of getting my business off the ground and coaching person and after person, I've learned that these 5 things are what prevent us from ever achieving the goals we set out to achieve. If you're ready to have the best year of your life, then it's time to take control and mix it up a bit.
5 things to STOP doing in 2019:
1. Quick Fixes
Choosing quick fixes and fad diets instead of REAL nutrition that is made to last a lifetime. If you are making a change to your nutrition at the start of this new year and you CAN'T sustain it until December then DON'T DO IT. How can you expect real change when you only give yourself 30 days of restrictive, miserable, unrealistic eating habits that will end the second Feb. 1 comes around?
2. Fearing food
Most of us have been traumatized when it comes to food. We're terrified of carbs. We're told to only eat salads. We're told protein will damage our kidneys. We're told cake will "go to your hips". We're told restrictive diets (eliminating everything we love) is the ONLY way to success. I'm here to tell you it's not. When you free yourself from the negative stigma of food, you STOP having uncontrollable binges and cravings. Why? Because food becomes NORMAL. We stop REBELLING and learn to just eat food that makes us FEEL good. Balance will get you the results you want.
3. Not taking care of yourself
Getting 4-5 hours of sleep, working 15 hour days, running yourself into the ground, and not taking even just ONE day for yourself is preventing you from reaching your goals. If you want to lose weight, your body MUST feel safe and secure. If you're chronically stressed, your body senses danger. It doesn't know if the stress is from work or from a plane crash that has stranded you in the snow caps of the Rocky Mountains. If your body experiences stress, it feels in danger and isn't going to shed weight naturally. Take a day for yourself. Get massages. Meditate. Do yoga. Go for walks. Take baths. Laugh with friends. Go on trips. Have date night. Your self-worth isn't determined by how much you work. It's determined by how you treat yourself and how you feel about yourself.
4. Saying "I can't"
I can't lose weight. I can't eat that much. I can't eat protein. I can't eat that many carbs. I can't take a day for myself. I can't do a muscle up. I can't do CrossFit. I can't track my macros. I can't eat veggies at every meal. No...you can. You CHOOSE not to. There's a difference. Change your wording to I CAN. Do you know how many doors you open when you say that? If you never try the thing you say you "can't do", then you'll NEVER do it and you'll never know if it actually works. If you at least give it a shot, then you know with 100% certainty. If it works, then don't you achieve what you're setting out to do? Isn't that the point? You don't have to sell yourself so short all the time.
5. Comparing yourself to others
If I could change ONE thing about the world, I would remove comparisons. They only make you feel worse about yourself and most of the comparisons made are completely inaccurate. In the world of social media, we only put up what we want people to see. I'll prove it to you. On social media, my business is booming and I'm not struggling...even for a bit. Life is perfect and I am beyond blessed and strong and fit and happy. There are some people who have told me this and how jealous they were. They look at me and my life and beat themselves up over it. Now here is the reality that they don't see. Owning my own business and working from home is incredibly lonely sometimes. It's uncertain and I struggle with finances every month. I sometimes look in the mirror and wish I was 5-10 lbs lighter or more muscular. It's just the reality of MY life, which isn't something I put on social media. This isn't a sob story, believe me!!! All I'm saying is that life isn't as perfect as we make it out to be. Comparing yourself to someone who seems "perfect" is futile because they aren't actually perfect and it's only causing you pain and hindering YOUR success.
If you put these 5 things behind you and move into 2019 with a new and open mindset, I will guarantee that you will achieve EVERY goal you set out to reach.
